The Clearwater Threshers lost a close one tonight as the Manatees closed out the series with a 5-4 win in the game. Darren Byrd got the start for the Threshers and threw six solid innings of baseball. The Threshers took an early 1-0 lead picking up a run in the second inning on a sacrifice fly from Fidel Hernandez after Gus Milner had led the inning of with a double followed by a single from Tuffy Gosewisch and a walk from designated hitter Allan Robbins loaded the bases. Unfortunately that was all the Threshers could get in the inning.

In the third inning the Manatees tied the game on a pair of singles and a double, and then in the fourth inning they took the lead picking up an unearned run thanks in part to a throwing error by the Threshers short stop and a wild pitch.

The Manatees tacked on a third run in the sixth inning to make the game 3-1, but in the top of the seventh inning the Threshers offense caught fire picking up three runs to battle back into the lead to go up 4-3 in the game.

Unfortunately the lead would prove short lived as Matt Smith came on in relief of Darren Byrd and gave up a single and a home run to put the Manatees back on top 5-4. That score would hold up until the end of the game with the Manatees taking three out of four in this series with the Threshers.
