Box Score
The Clearwater Threshers continued their losing ways on Saturday night as they fell 5-1 to the Daytona Cubs being held to a single run for the second night in a row. Matt Smith got a rehab start with the Threshers and threw two scoreless innings.
Andrew Cruse relieved Smith in the third and went 3.1 innings giving up run in the fifht inning and another in the sixth before being replaced by Alex Concepcion. Concepcion would get the Threshers out of the sixth inning by retiring two, but ran into trouble of his own in the seventh. Alex gave up three runs in the seventh inning thanks in part to some poor defense by his team and the Cubs gained a 5-0 advantage that would hold up until the end.
In their half of the seventh inning the Threshers picked up their only run of the game on a solo home run from John Urick, but as I have said all too often this season....it was far too little far too late.
The team got nothing through the next two innings and once again went home on the losing end.
The Threshers will face these same Cubs on Sunday afternoon at 4:00. If you are a glutton for punishment get out to the park for the game.
