Tyson Brummet made his Clearwater debut on Tuesday and looked very solid in the effort. He scattered seven hits over seven innings of work, held the Manatees to two runs and struck out five while walking just one. He surrendered a solo home run in the third inning and after two outs in the fifth inning he gave up a walk and then a double to drive in the Manatees second run of the game, but that was all the Mantees would manage to put on the board in the game.
The Threshers offense meanwhile was no-hit by the Manatees starter Josh Butler through 4.2 innings, but broke out in the fifth inning to tie the game at two runs each. Gus Milner led off the fifth with a triple to extend his hitting streak to fourteen games, and he then scored on a RBI single from Tuffy Gosewisch after Jay Miller had been hit by a pitch. Fidel Hernandez then reached on a fielder's choice with Jay Miller being thrown out on a very controversial call at third. Quintin Berry kept things going for the offense by loading the bases on a single to right field, before an RBI single from PJ Antoniato scored Gosewisch from third and had Fidel Hernandez out at the plate on another close call. Matt Spencer grounded out to end the inning, but the team had battled their way back into the game, now tied at 2-2.
The Threshers were held hitless through the sixth and seventh innings, but finally got the go ahead and winning run in the eighth. Clay Harris got things started with a one out walk, and was replaced with Welinson Baez as a pinch runner. Baez advanced to second on a wild pitch, and then scored when John Urick crushed a double to deep left-center putting the team up 3-0.
Sam Walls came out of the bullpen to get his second save in a row, and his third in the series as the Threshers ended the series with a 3-1 record over the Manatees.
John Urick picked up his second consecutive game winning RBI to earn the
SCHMIDT LIST player of the game award. Kudos definitely go out to Tyson Brummett for his debut performance as well as Brett Harker and Sam Walls for shutting down the Manatees over the final two innings.
