Threshers End Series With the Cubs
Savery Back on Form in the Game

The Clearwater Threshers had Joe Savery on the mound on Wednesday night as they tried to close out their series with a win to leave Daytona even at 2-2 in the four game set. After a few really tough games Savery looked to back to his early season form, and that he did. Savery would go seven very strong innings scattering five hits and giving up just one run with eight punch outs and one walk.
The offense helped him out by going on top with a run in the second as Gus Milner reached on an error, moved to third on a single from PJ Antoniato, then scored on a sac fly from catcher Tuffy Gosewisch. The Cubs managed to tie the game with a solo home run in the third, but the Threshers got back on top in the fifth inning when PJ Antoniato picked up his second hit to reach base and later scored on an Alan Robbins RBI single.
In the eighth inning Fidel Hernandez picked up his first home run of the season to give the Threshers an insurance run and up their lead to 3-1 while in the bottom of the frame Sam Walls came in for the team out of the bullpen to seal the victory. Walls would take the Threshers through the eighth inning with no hits, two Ks and a walk, and then John Urick led off the ninth with a solo shot to up the lead to 4-1 and make things that much more comfortable for the team heading into the Cubs final at bat. The Threshers offense wasn't quite done yet though as Gus Milner reached, stole second, and then scored as Alan Robbins picked up his second RBI with a single to make it 5-1 for the good guys.
In their final at bat the Cubs got a lead off walk, followed by one quick out. They then got an infield single on a blast that ricocheted off the shin of Sam Walls, but Walls would shake that off and stay in the game. He then put out the next two batters on grounders to end the game and secure victory for his squad.
The SCHMIDT LIST award would go to Joe Savery for his excellent work on the mound, while an honorable mention would go to Fidel Hernandez for his first home run.
