![]() The Jeff Lamana Memorial MOST VALUABLE PLAYER AWARD To the player voted by the fans as the 2006 MVP. BRANDEN FLORENCE2006 Most Valuable PlayerQuietly and consistently Branden produced for the team from the beginning of the season until the end. He lead the team in batting average, hits, RBIs and total bases. His average was the second highest in the entire Florida State League, and his hits total broke a franchise record previously set by Rusty McNamara in 1998. |
| |
The Uncle Crooked One STRAIGHT SHOOTER AWARD To the Best Starting Pitcher of 2006 JULIO DE LA CRUZThe voting for best starting pitcher was the closest race ever in the five year history of the Most Excellent awards, but Julio De La Cruz picked up a rush of votes at the end of the voting on the strength of his no-hitter thrown on August 18th. It was just the second no hitter in Clearwater history and the first by a Thresher. He lead the team in strikeouts, and when he was on his mark he was nearly unstoppable. With a little more experience and consistency Julio can become a dominant pitcher. |
The Eugene Tingler AH, THAT'S A RELIEF AWARD To the Best Relief Pitcher of 2006 NATE JOHNSONVoting in this category was very close but Nate managed to edge out Threshers closer Adam Shafer for top honors in this category. Nate was solid out of the bullpen all year. He appeared in more games that any other reliever, and at season's end he had the lowest ERA on the staff. |
The Monica Crupper MR. PHOTOGENIC AWARD To the player who showed the ladies what they came to see in 2006. MIKE COSTANZOMike was the run away winner in voting for this category. Not only did he keep the ladies happy at the ballpark, but his on field peformance was solid as well. He was second on the team in hits and RBIs trailing only Branden Florence in those categories, and Mike appeared in more games than any other Thresher this year while leading the team in doubles and home runs. |
The Barbara "Scoops" Seymour FASHIONABLE LATE AWARD To the player with who did not start the season at Clearwater, but who helped spark the team. GREG GOLSONGreg Started the 2006 season at Lakewood, but moved to Clearwater in late July. Over the final six weeks of the season Greg provided an offensive and defensive spark for the team. He hit consistently for power and when needed. He peaked at season's end by hitting for the cycle in the final week of the season. |
The Pete Rose CHARLIE HUSTLE AWARD To the player who left it all on the field every game. BRIAN BURGAMYBrian was a speedster in the outfield and on the base path for the Threshers this season, and earned a promotion to Reading at season's end. Brian set a team record for runs scored in a season with 110, crushing the old record of 93 set by Gary Burnham in 1998. Brian also tied a record for walks in a season with 88 to join Nate Espy of the 2001 Clearwater Phillies in the record book. |
The Psychic Barb BRIGHT FUTURE AWARD To the player most likely to make it to "the show." GREG GOLSONFor all the same reasons that he won the fashionably late award he was a run away choice for the Bright Future award. Solid and consistent effort this season has got Golson wearing shades. |

![]() The Jeff Crupper dot Com MOST VALUABLE PLAYER AWARD To the player voted by the fans as the 2005 MVP. JAKE BLALOCK2005 Most Valuable PlayerThough not flashy or showy, Jake showed a steady contribution to the Clearwater Threshers the entire season. He ended the season leading the team in six different statistical categories including hits, RBIs, and On-Base-Percentage. |
| |
The Uncle Crooked One STRAIGHT SHOOTER AWARD To the Best Starting Pitcher of 2005 SCOTT MATHIESONThough Scott finished the year with a losing record, he had a terrific presence on the mound, and left the games with a lead many times that was blown by the bullpen or by lack of run support. Scott was second on the team in innings pitched and finished the year with an impressive strike out to walk ration of nearly 4:1. Scott never seemed satisfied even with his best performances, and that is an attitude that is sure to keep his development rolling in the right direction. |
The Eugene Tingler AH, THAT'S A RELIEF AWARD To the Best Relief Pitcher of 2005 NICK EVANGELISTANick was a rock out of the bullpen all year for the team. He earned the respect of all of his teammates as well as the fans, and when he took the hill you knew that something good was going to happen. He ended the year with the team's lowest ERA, and the most wins of any pitcher. |
The Monica Crupper MR. PHOTOGENIC AWARD To the player who showed the ladies what they came to see in 2005. BRYAN HANSENThough there was a mixed reaction from the ladies to the mustache he grew towards the end of the year, Bryan's Pat Burrell-esque good looks were enough to put him over the top in this year's Mr. Photogenic voting. Despite missing the first third of the season due to injury, Bryan's on-field performance was solid as well. He showed steady progress in his hitting, and finished the season strong. |
The Barbara "Scoops" Seymour BREAKOUT PLAYER-OF-THE-YEAR AWARD To the player with who really picked up their game in 2005. TIM MOSSTim really made a name for himself in the Phillies organization with his performance this season. He was the only Threshers player chosen to the Florida State League All-Star Team and finished the season leading the team in seven offensive categories, including Home Runs, Doubles, and Stolen Bases. Tim was also named player of the game twelve times, more than any other player on the team. |
The Pete Rose CHARLIE HUSTLE AWARD To the player who left it all on the field every game. BRAD CORRELLWith his positive attitude and a bit of cockiness Brad came into every game looking to make things happen. His terrific personality has made him a fan favorite this entire year, and his effort on the field has earned the fan's respect. Only Tim Moss and Jake Blalock appeared in more games this year than Brad, and he finished the year third on the team in batting average and slugging percentage. |
The Psychic Barb BRIGHT FUTURE AWARD To the player most likely to make it to "the show." JAKE BLALOCKFor the same reasons that Jake was named the team MVP the fans voted him this year's "Bright Future" award. Good luck Jake, whereever the future takes you!. |
MOST CONSISTENT HITTER MARC TUGWELLMarc had a terrific season and a great first-half of the year. At the All-Star break Marc had the highest batting average in the entire Florida State League, and had been a solid contributor to the Threshers playing three different positions. Unfortunately he was overlooked for the All-Star team and missed out on a well deserved honor. For the year Marc remained in the league's top ten in hitting and finished as his team's leader in batting average. Congratulations Marc on a season well played!
|
MOST IMPROVED PLAYER BRIAN SELLIERBrian was a late addition to the Threshers' roster this year, and he got off to a very slow start. Down the stretch he really turned things on and when he came to the plate the fans and his teammates knew that something good could happen anytime. He ended the year tied for first on the team in Doubles, and was second on the team in Home Runs, and Slugging Percentage, and was named the player of the game nine times this season.
|
DEFENSIVE PLAY OF THE SEASON GREG ISAACSONOn July 26, 2005 with the Threshers up 2-0 in the sixth inning the Jupiter Hammerheads were threatening with runners at first and second and no outs. The player at the plate tapped a beautiful bunt. As the first baseman charged the bunt Greg rushed to cover first, but the throw from the catcher was high and he was forced to jump to attempt a catch. The runner coming to first barrelled into Greg and the two Hammerheads base runners raced for home to tie the game. Though he had fallen face first into the dirt after being crushed by the base runner, Greg had the presence of mind to leap to his feet and chase down the errant throw. He sent the ball sailing towards the plate just in time to get out the second runner and help the team secure a 2-1 victory.
|
BEST PITCHING BY AN INFIELDER OMAR BRAMASCOThough an infielder by trade Omar had a shining moment as a pitcher on May 2, 2005 when he came on in the final inning of the game. He proceeded to strike out two batters, and gave up no hits to become the only Threshers pitcher at the time with a perfect 0.00 ERA. The Threshers lost the game 11-3, but Omar's terrific effort made the game worth witnessing.
